Enforcement Policy

In cases where development has taken place without permission the Council has wide ranging powers to take enforcement action.  This does not mean that we will take action every time - unauthorised development as such is not a criminal offence.  Government policy is that formal action should be used as a very last resort to control unacceptable development and should not be used simply to extract planning applications for otherwise acceptable proposals.
