Planning Services

“The planning system regulates the development and use of land in the public interest. It should reconcile the needs of development and conservation, securing economy, efficiency and amenity in the use of land, and protecting natural resources and the historic environment, thereby contributing to sustainable development” Planning Policy Wales 2002.

Powys Planning Services delivers the following services for Powys (except for those areas of Powys within the Brecon Beacons National Park): preparation of the Unitary Development Plan, determining planning and related applications under the Town and Country Planning Act, conservation and protection of the built environment, planning policy in relation to minerals and waste including the processing of minerals and waste planning applications and monitoring of approved sites, enforcement of planning control where it is essential to protect amenity, the historic built environment, public or highway safety, and the integrity of the development control process within Powys. Powys Planning Services also administers the Building Regulations for the whole of Powys including those areas within the Brecon Beacons National Park.

The County Council delivers Planning Services through Shire Committees and a County Planning Committee from offices based at Neuadd Brycheiniog in Brecon, The Gwalia in Llandrindod Wells and Neuadd Maldwyn in Welshpool.
