How can I register my premises for marriage, civil partnerships and other ceremonies?

Why Is a Licence Required?

A licence is required to allow for the solemnisation of Civil Marriages and formation of  Civil Partnerships, and other non statutory ceremonies as and when they are introduced in Powys. The licence is valid for three years.

You can see a list of premises which are already approved for these purposes via the links on the left of this page or via here.

How to apply

Please use the links on the right of this page to apply or exchange information.

Alternatively, an application form can be obtained using the contact details on the right of this page.

Completed applications should be sent to the

Proper Officer Representative,
Powys Registration Service,
The Gwalia,
Ithon Road,
Llandrindod Wells,
Powys
LD1 6AA,
United Kingdom.

The completed application form should be accompanied by the non refundable fee, three copies of the plans of the premises with the room(s) highlighted and an up to date Fire Risk Assessment.

What happens next?

On receipt of the completed documents, an official notice will be placed in the local press that the licence has been applied for.  Members of the public then have 21 days in which to lodge any objections to the issue of the licence.

Your Fire Risk Assessment is sent to the Mid and West Wales Fire Authority for their comments.

The Proper Officer Representative, or their representative, will inspect the premises for suitability.

If there are no objections, if the inspection is in order and if no unfavourable comments are lodged by the Fire Authority, the licence will be issued for a period of 3 years from the date of issue.

What if I don’t hear from Powys County Council within the specified time period?

It is in the public interest that Powys County Council must process your application before it can be granted.  If you have not heard from Powys County Council within a reasonable period, please contact us.  You can do this using the contact details to the right of this page.

Please note that the application process may take up to eight weeks.

Is there an appeal process?

Please contact Powys County Council Registration Service Manager in the first instance.  If that has not worked the General Register Office will give you advice.

Fees

For 2009/10 the fee is £750.00 for a period of three years.  This fee is subject to annual review.
