Builder's Skips Licences

Introduction

When carrying out building or maintenance work on any part of a property it may be necessary to use a skip.

Where possible a skip should be placed on land within the property boundary. In some locations this will not be possible and the Council may be able to give permission to place the skip on the road.  Permission will only be granted to the skip operator.

What is the Application Process?

Before permission is given the Council will consider all aspects including safety and disruption to other road users. If it is not possible to give permission for the requested location the Council will try to identify an alternative as close as possible.

Skips placed on the highway will need to comply with the requirements of the Council. This includes:

  • siting the skip
  • skip dimensions
  • making skips visible to traffic
  • colour and markings
  • care and disposal of skip contents
  • lighting and guarding of skips
  • skip removal
