Why read Young Adult fiction?
Because some of the very best writing around is aimed at this age group. It's as simple as that! So don't miss out!
In some branch libraries these books have a section of their own, in others they are shelved with the adult fiction. The branch librarian will be glad to point them out. Wherever they are, they are clearly marked with a red spine label.

Your entitlements as a Young Adult
Children’s membership
Up to the age of 14 you can be a member of the children’s library. You will need a parent or guardian’s signature to join and then your entitlement is for loan of 10 items of which 2 can be audio books. We have DVDs and music CDs for children but you would need an adult to borrow them for you.
At the age of 11 you can borrow Young Adult books marked with the red spine label. Up to the age of 16 you can access the library public computers as a member of our Internet Club. (Click here for info)
At 14 years
On your 14th birthday you are entitled to become an adult member of Powys Libraries. If you are already a library member then your local library will upgrade your membership to an adult membership. If you have not been a member before and would like to join at 14 then visit your local library with some proof of your address. An official letter from a bank or something like a mobile phone network provider which has your name and address will be fine. If you have any difficulties a parent or guardian may be able to help by providing a utility bill with the family address.
As an adult member at 14 you will be able to borrow the full 20 items including 4 music CDs and DVDs of the appropriate certificate. (You will need to be 15 to borrow a film rated 15 etc.) (Click here to see the charges for borrowing charges for these materials). As an adult member you will be responsible for the replacement of lost items and any overdue fines.
Regulations covering use of computers in libraries is slightly different. Until the age of 16 you can use library computers as an Internet Club member (Click here for info). At 16 you can have full adult access.
