This page provides information about Business Waste Services offered by Powys County Council.
Every business, organisation and charity has a legal duty to ensure any waste they produce is disposed of in the correct way. Powys County Council can offer Powys based businesses this service for most types of business waste, but cannot collect or dispose of any Liquid Waste or Hazardous Wastes.
Every business, organisation and charity is responsible for recycling some of the waste they produce as per Landfill Regulation 2002. Powys County Council can help customers with this responsibility.
Waste charges are not included as you have the choice of using our service or using the service provided by an authorised, private contractor. As businesses differ in size and produce different quantities of waste it would be unfair to have to set an amount that every business must pay.
Included in the charges are provision of required containers, weekly collection, disposal costs for waste and landfill tax, all contract paperwork and Duty of Care documentation.
Following a recent investigation HMRC have ruled that commercial waste collections carried out by Local Authorities is no longer subject to VAT. I am pleased to announce that the County Council will be passing this on in full and therefore with effect from 1st April 2011 VAT will no longer be applied to your commercial waste.
