28/3/2013 Teenage Conceptions in Wales, 2011

The latest report on teenage conceptions produced by the Welsh Government was released on 28 March 2013.

The rate of conceptions to under 18s in Powys is 21.3 per 1000 in 2011.

Powys ranked 21st among Welsh Unitary Authorities for 2011 for average rate per 1000 female residents compared to Wales 34.2, above only Monmouth.

25/3/2013 Gypsy and Traveller Caravan Count, January 2012

Statistics on the number of Gypsy and Traveller caravans in Wales produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 14 March 2013. The report can be found here.

On 17th January 2013, Powys had 42 caravans. 32 were on authorised sites and 10 on unauthorised spread over 17 pitches.

This compares to January 2012 when Powys had 27 authorised and 2 unauthorised caravans and July 2012 when Powys had 29 authorised and 38 unauthorized.

22/3/2013 Powys claimant unemployment rate 2.6% February 2013

There were 2,049 people out of work and claiming unemployment benefits in Powys in February 2013, equivalent to 2.6% of the estimated resident population aged 16-64 according to data released in March 2013 by the Office for National Statistics.

The Council's Research and Information Unit estimate that the highest claimant unemployment rates among the county's 15 Local Community Forum Areas (LCFAs) were in Llandrindod Wells LCFA (4.4%), Newtown LCFA (3.5%) and Ystradgynlais LCFA (3.1%).

Llandrindod East/Llandrindod West electoral division was the 15th worst area in Wales.  Newtown South was also within the worst 100 areas.

22/3/2013 Deliberate Fires 2011-12

The latest National Statistics on Deliberate Fire, 2011-12 produced by the Welsh Government was published on 28th February 2013.

The bulletin includes data on deliberate fires by fire service area.

Powys had 158 deliberate fires in 2011-12 (Wales 10,629), down from 159 in 2010-12 (Wales 14,297) and up from 131 in 2009-10 (Wales 12,912).

This was an increase of 21% since 2009-10, compared to a fall across Wales of 18% and was the 3rd largest increase among local authorities in Wales.

Powys had 99 chimney fire in 2011-12, the highest number among local authorities in Wales.

27/2/13 Wales Children in Need Census report

The latest Wales Children in Need Census report has been published by the Welsh Government on 27th February, 2013. The Children in Need census collected individual records on all children in need who had an open case with a local authority on the 31 March 2012. 

For 2011-12, Powys had 715 children in need (Wales 20,240) compared to 660 in 2010-11 (Wales 19,710).

Of these, 235 were children with a disability (Wales 5,125) compared with 215 in 2010-11 (Wales 4,980).

For 2011-12, 95% of children in need in Powys were of white ethnicity (Wales 90%).

Powys had the highest percentage of Children in Need with Autistic Spectrum Disorder among UAs in Wales at 14% (Wales 9%)
