Safe Family Swimming

Safe family swimming poster

Bro Ddyfi Leisure Centre operates a child admissions policy in line with ISRM's risk assessment guidelines for the safety of children, particularly children who can not swim. For those adults with children under the age of 8 who meet the criteria of the ASA / ISRM Pool Swimming Standard Award, the policy can be varied to allow adults to accompany more than the recommended number of children into the pool.

The ASA / ISRM Pool Swimming Standard Award has been designed to complement and support ISRM's risk assessment guidance for child admissions. The award provides an assessment of swimming ability and water confidence.

Assessment Criteria for the ASA / ISRM Pool Swimming Standard Award
1. Jump from the side into water of 1.5metres or more so that the head fully submerges. Alternatively, where there is shallow water, hold a submerged mushroom float for 10 seconds.
2. Then, tread water for 1 minute.
3. Then, swim 50 metres in under 2 minutes.

Assessment Method
The assessment method will be conducted by a holder of the ASA Teaching Certificate.
On completion of the assessment a slip is taken to reception with a passport size photograph, pays £2.50 and collects on next visit once card is laminated. Reception to retain a copy for files.
Lost cards can be replaced at a cost of £2.50

How to book on the assessment?
The assessment costs £2.50 per child to be settled upon arrival.
