Every child is an individual. They all develop and learn at different rates. Some children find learning easy and some find it hard. With the right help all children can develop at their own pace. This means that within a classroom different teaching styles and strategies will be needed, taking into account the abilities, strengths, weaknesses and interest of all of the children. These different approaches to learning will help most children to make progress. Some may however need more support.
If you or your child’s school are concerned that your child is not making progress, it is possible that they may have some special educational needs.
In most cases your child’s school or early years setting will be able to provide for any additional learning needs your child may have. They do this at different stages of need through what is called the Early Years Action/School Action or Early Years Action Plus/School Action Plus.
