Primary School Transport

To qualify for primary school transport, pupils must reside 2 or more miles from the nearest school, measured by the shortest walking distance, wherever practicable within existing transport routes. It should be noted that transport for qualifying pupils is only provided to the school that normally takes pupils from the area in which they live.

Linking transport is only provided for Primary School pupils who qualify for free transport and reside one or more miles from a main school transport route.

Transport is available in appropriate areas of Powys for pupils who wish to attend primary schools for education through the medium of Welsh or English.

Completed application forms should be returned at the same time as the Primary School Admission Form.

Secondary School Transport

To qualify for school transport, pupils of secondary age must reside 3 or more miles from the nearest school measured by the shortest walking distance, wherever practicable within existing transport routes.

Linking transport is only provided for Secondary School pupils of statutory school age who reside two or more miles from a main school transport route.

It should be noted that transport for qualifying pupils is only provided to the school that normally takes pupils from the area in which they live.

Welsh Medium

Welsh medium transport is available to designated schools offering almost all subjects through the medium of Welsh in the following:

Post 16 Transport

If post-16 learners wish to travel on school transport they must make application for transport each academic year.  Further information is available from the Admissions and Transport Team.

 

Vacant Seat Payment Scheme

Pupils who live within the statutory walking distance from school and live near or on an existing transport route may have the opportunity to make use of any vacant seats available under the Vacant Seat Payment Scheme on payment of the appropriate fee.
