Programmes of study
Programmes of study set out what pupils should be taught in information technology at each key stage, and provide the basis for planning schemes of work.

At Key Stages 1, 2 and 3 there are two sections:

  • Communicating and Handling Information
  • Modelling.

Each programme of study aims to develop IT capability in pupils. This requires them to develop their skills in obtaining, preparing, processing and presenting information and in communicating ideas with increasing independence. Pupils should use these skills to support their work in a variety of contexts and subjects.

There is also a Common Requirement for teachers to provide opportunities, where appropriate, for pupils to develop and apply their IT skills in the study of all National Curriculum subjects.

Details of the requirements for Information Technology can be found in the subject Order document 'Information technology in the National Curriculum in Wales' which can be downloaded from the Welsh Assembly Government's website by clicking the link.
