Produce Markets

About Markets in Powys

Powys County Council holds the Market Rights for Charter Markets and Prescriptive Markets within the County.

The Authority is currently directly responsible for 7 operational produce markets at Newtown, Machynlleth, Llanfyllin, Llanidloes, Knighton, Builth and Brecon. A further 4 produce markets at Welshpool, Montgomery, Crickhowell and Hay-on-Wye are operated by others through agency or licence agreements with the Authority.

Private markets may operate at other locations in the County e.g. Llandrindod Wells.

The days of operation of Authority managed produce markets are included in the `Indoor Produce Market Hall Regulations` and `Outdoor Produce Market Regulations`. Tolls to be levied at each market are included in the `3 Year Harmonisation of Tolls Programme` that was implemented on 1st May 2006.

Consumer Complaint

We would always advise that in the event of a complaint the first contact is made with the trader by you - preferably in the form a letter (with proof of delivery). If that has not worked, if you are located in the UK, Consumer Direct will give you advice. From outside the UK contact the UK European Consumer Centre.
