Careline

Older or disabled? Live independently at home with confidence.

Live independently at home with confidence

Did you know that Powys County Council runs a scheme that can give you support and reassurance at home if you are older or disabled?

As we get older or have a disability, we want to remain positive and independent. There is no reason why not! However, we might face the worry of being taken ill or having an accident at home. Like many, we may have the worry that we will be a victim of crime. Even though it is very unlikely to happen, if it does it can threaten our future, our confidence and our sense of wellbeing.

Powys County Council's ‘Powys Careline’ has provided personal alarms and a monitoring service for thousands of people across the county. A Community Alarm is provided to link to the home’s landline telephone and the user carries a button to press to call help if and when they need it.

Now, thanks to funding from the Welsh Assembly Government, Powys Careline has one of the most advanced systems in the world and is able to offer additional technology that can keep a general eye on user’s wellbeing and call help if it’s needed.

Powys Careline offers a 24 hour, 365 day service. A basic new service would provide sensors that will call an alarm if there might be a fire, a burglar or if someone calls at the door and may not be who they say they are or for the user to call if they are taken ill. Powys Careline can immediately call the Fire Service, Police or Doctor / Ambulance, or perhaps a friend or relative, for help with advice and support.

There are many other sensors available that can call help in the unlikely event of an accident or ill health.

The service is paid for every 3 months and costs from £3.44 per week. Sensors are available according to needs. If you would like to find out more and for a full list of the Community Alarm Prices, contact the Powys Careline admin team on 0845 6027039 / 01597 827639.

Emergencies

The staff who deal with Careline calls also act as the Council’s 24 hr Duty Room - a room where the emergency services and the public (out of office hours) can contact the Authority for an emergency response.

The room also takes in flood warnings and severe weather warnings which are passed on to the duty Emergency Planning Officer.

For any Council emergency out of office hours dial 0845 054 4847.
