Affordable Housing Provision

Powys CC Housing Strategy Section work very closely with both the Welsh Assembly Government and the Housing Associations to develop affordable housing.

There are several different types of affordable housing to suit different needs:

Firstly there is what has been traditionally known as council housing and more recently social housing which includes homes rented from a housing association.

Then there is intermediate affordable housing that can either be rented at a level somewhere between what a council would charge and what a private landlord might charge on the open market. Also in this category are various forms of low cost home ownership such as shared-equity where you can own a proportion of the home with a partner such as a housing association.

Finally there is market discount housing which is offered for sale at an agreed percentage of full market value to strictly qualifying individuals with conditions regarding future sale to ensure it remains affordable.

For more information, view our Affordable Housing Delivery Statement on the Strategy and policy page.

The Council has an Affordable Housing Officer (contact details on right) whose main purpose is to co-ordinate the development and implementation of strategies and policies in relation to the delivery of affordable housing and to work in partnership with statutory and non-statutory agencies, housing providers, developers, landowners and local communities to ensure that suitable housing is provided to meet the local need.
