Young or Old We All Have Rights

  • To live our own lives, free from harm or fear
  • To be treated with respect
  • To make our own choices and decisions
  • To speak up for ourselves and be listened to.

We can all be vulnerable if we have to rely on other people to care for us or keep us safe.

We may have to rely on others because of illness, disability or other needs. We may need help to care for ourselves, to look after our home, to manage money, to travel, to go out or to speak with others. We may be living in a difficult situation, there may be family arguments, we may share a home with people we don’t get on with or there may be money problems.

All of these things can increase the risk of abuse happening.

Adult protection is about stopping abuse

If you are concerned that someone is being harmed or abused or you want to make an adult protection referral, please ring Social Services or the Police. Contact details are on the right of this page.
