Postal Voting

Many people find voting by post more convenient than attending at the Polling Station. Recently introduced legislation now allows postal voting "on demand"; anyone is entitled to vote by post.

You can register to vote by post for a specific election or for all elections until you give us further notice.

If you have chosen to vote by post, your ballot paper will be sent to you between one and two weeks before polling day.

  • You will need to mark your ballot paper in the normal way.
  • You will also be required to complete a Postal Voting Statement; this Statement acts as a deterrent to postal voting fraud, and without it your vote is invalid.
  • You must return the postal vote before the close of poll, either by returning it to the Returning Officer or by handing it in at a polling station in the area.

Please remember that the closing deadline for Postal or Proxy Voting Application Forms are as follow -

Postal voting application forms to reach the Elections Office 11 working days before Polling Day at 5 p.m.

Proxy voting application forms to reach the Elections Office 6 working days before Polling Day at 5 p.m.
