To ensure that all managers have an understanding of the nature of abuse and of their responsibilities to prevent abuse and to respond effectively to concerns and allegations of possible abuse in line with the Wales Interim Policy and Procedure for the Protection of Vulnerable Adults from Abuse.

Key Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course participants will:

  • Be able to distinguish between abuse and complaints
  • Understand the organisational features that can lead to abuse going undetected an unaddressed
  • Identify and respond appropriately to signs and symptoms of abuse
  • Be aware of the key areas that can contaminate evidence within an investigation
  • Understand their responsibility as employers under the Vulnerable Group Act 2006
  • Understand their responsibility to make a referral to the Independent Safeguarding Authority and or Professional Body
  • Have knowledge and understanding of the legal and policy context
  • Be aware of good management practice and preventative measures
  • Be fully aware of the stages and timescales in the adult protection processes
  • Understand the relationship between HR policies and adult protection policies
  • Be able to ensure that their recruitment and selection procedures are robust
