Incredible Years Training - Autism Spectrum & Language delays Parenting Programme

Two-day add-on training for staff already trained as Incredible Years Group Leaders.

This course is open only to staff who are skilled and experienced in working with children ASD. The training will be particularly suitable for clinical and educational psychologist, speech and language therapists, learning disability nurses and social workers, teachers and family support practitioners who are experienced in working with young children with ASD

(Please note: Delegates MUST have completed a three-day BASIC training before attending this course). This training is free to participants employed by agencies in Powys. For delegates outside of Powys the cost is £300 plus VAT.

Key Learning Outcomes

Participants will learn how to deliver the programme in a collaborative way. The training teaches the following content:

  1. Child-Directed Narrated Play Promotes Positive Relationships
  2. Pre-Academic and Persistence Coaching Promotes Language Development and School Readiness
  3. Social Coaching Promotes Friendship Skills
  4. Emotion Coaching Promotes Emotional Literacy
  5. Pretend Play Promotes Empathy and Social Skills
  6. Promoting Children’s Self-Regulation Skills
  7. Using Praise and Rewards to Motivate Children
  8. Effective Limit Setting and Behavior Management

Staff will be able to offer this 12–16 session programme  to parents of young children (aged 2-8) on the Autism spectrum or with language delays, in order to promote communication skills, children’s emotional regulation, social competence, language skills, school readiness, and social relationships skills.

Group process issues such as empowering parents, collaborating, dealing with resistance, confronting and teaching, supporting and advocating for parents will be considered, with opportunities to practice these skills.




There is no charge to attend these courses, however a cancellation charge may apply to non-attendance if sufficient notice is not given
