What is the Disclosure and Barring Service?

The Disclosure and Barring Service is a national organisation that search police records and, in relevant cases, barred list information, in order to assess whether applicants can safely and appropriately be employed. Powys County Council provide a stringent, efficient and transparent umbrella body service that enables organisations of all sizes and purposes to process their DBS checks quickly and more efficiently. Through eBulk, which is the fastest and most efficient way to process DBS checks and an extensive support system that is enhanced by the vast DBS knowledge of the dedicated DBS team, Powys County Council can provide your organisation with a personalised, indispensable DBS system that will strengthen safer recruitment procedures and enhance your safeguarding policies.

Organisations: Are you processing less than 1,000 DBS checks per annum? Our umbrella body services for organisations of varying sizes are a simple yet advanced way to manage your DBS checks online. After a consultation period, we will develop the ideal package for your DBS needs.  With the expert guidance of our team, completing checks for your staff and/or volunteers has never been easier.

Corporate: Are you processing more than 1,000 DBS checks per annum and looking for a faster, more efficient way of managing your DBS checks?  Our online system, which is customisable to your requirements free of charge, will streamline your recruitment and safeguarding process, minimise administration delays and outsource much of the responsibility.

What will registering with Powys County Council cost?

Registering with Powys County Council is free. There are no hidden charges or costs that will be added to your bill, which will consist of costs incurred from the national DBS and our administration fee. The costs of conducting your DBS checks with Powys County Council are outlined below. Please note that Enhanced or Standard DBS Checks for volunteers are free. You will simply be charged £10 administration.

* VAT is payable on top of the admin fee. If you intend to process large numbers of DBS Checks per annum you need to contact the DBS Unit in order to negotiate the admin fee.

What support do we offer our existing customers?

Powys County Council offers its existing customers a range of tools to support them process their DBS applications. This includes: 

  • 1:1 telephone guidance available during working hours.
  • Same day email response.
  • Applicant, verification officer and administrator guides to the online system.
  • Bespoke training guides for larger organisations.
  • Three days of free training sessions for larger organisations.

How can my organisation register with Powys County Council?

Registering to use Powys County Council as your umbrella body is simple. You just need to download and read the following documents before completing and returning the ‘Registration and Verification Officer’ form along with a letter on headed paper. In the first instance, we can accept these documents via email, but you will also need to post us a signed copy of these documents.
