New Mid-Powys Secondary School

Plans for merging two of the county’s secondary schools is now underway, following the conclusion of the statutory consultation process.  From September 2018, Builth Wells High School and Llandrindod High School will be merged, to form a new dual-sited school.

The Project

The new school will operate from the current sites of Llandrindod High School and Builth Wells High School, and will provide education for 11 – 18 year olds.  It will be a bilingual school with English medium provision delivered on both sites, with Welsh-medium provision available on the Builth Wells site.

There are no plans to build a single campus – secondary education will remain in both towns.

Timescales

The new school will open from 1st September 2018.

A temporary governing body has already been formed, and information will be made available to pupils, staff, parents and communities as the project evolved.
