The Project

It is proposed that five new primary schools will be built, replacing the current buildings in:

Clyro

Llangors

Archdeacon Griffiths Church in Wales Aided School, Llyswen

Hay on Wye

Talgarth (the new school at a site in Talgarth would see the closure of Bronllys CP and Talgarth CP Schools – subject to Cabinet approval)

Community facilities would also be co-located within the new school buildings in Talgarth and Hay-on-Wye.

The project could see an investment of up to £23 million, jointly funded by Welsh Government and Powys County Council, with some Church in Wales funding.

January 2017 - update

Planning approval has now been granted for all five schools and the Full Business Case (FBC) has been submitted for Welsh Government’s approval. Construction will begin following approval of the FBC!

14th October 2016

We are extremely pleased to announce that both Clyro and Archdeacon Griffiths schools have been granted planning permission!

Planning decisions on Hay on Wye, Llangorse and the new school at Talgarth are expected by Brecon Beacons National Park Authority in November.

Contractor Appointed!

Powys County Council has appointed a successful contractor for the design and build of the five new primary schools.  The contractor is Willmott Dixon Ltd.  Willmott Dixon have a good track record in constructing new schools for Powys County Council and designed and built the new Welsh-medium Ysgol Dafydd Llwyd school in Newtown and also the new schools in the south of the county in Ystradgynlais.

Willmott Dixon will soon be meeting with school pupils, staff and governors and with the wider communities to discuss and agree school designs.

Initial design meetings held with schools

We are happy to announce that we have held initial design meetings with all of the individual schools, in preparation to submit planning applications.

Positive feedback was received and we are eager to view the final designs!
