Building materials on the highway

Building near a road licence

If you need to place building materials on any part of the highway, you will need a licence from the Council. These licences are normally provided under the Highways Act section 171.

You don’t normally need a licence if building materials are placed on private land. All materials must be placed on private land whenever possible.

If you need to place building materials on any part of the highway, please apply for a licence.
