|Description||Powys County Council is proposing to make a new traffic Order to vary and introduce new waiting and loading restrictions on the county and trunk road network within Welshpool. These modifications are proposed to improve traffic flows through the town, improve highway safety, prevent nuisance parking on footways and carriageways, and standardise on highway waiting times. The proposal does not seek to introduce a residents’ on-street parking permit scheme in Welshpool as this policy is still in its trial phase, and is not yet available to roll out to other towns within Powys. The waiting and loading restrictions affecting the trunk roads are being made on behalf of the Welsh Government in their capacity as the trunk road authority.|
A copy of the draft Order, relevant plans and a statement of the Council's reasons for proposing to make the Order, may be downloaded from this site or inspected free of charge during office hours from 18 March 2016 until 15 April 2016, at the following venues:
• Powys County Council, County Hall, Llandrindod Wells, Powys, LD1 5LG.
• Powys County Council, Neuadd Maldwyn, Severn Road, Welshpool, SY21 7AS.
ANY PERSON may not later than 15 April 2016 object to the making of the Order by notice to the undersigned, stating the grounds of objection.

The Montgomeryshire Committee met on the 7 September 2016 to consider the representations received during the public consultation process. The agenda and minutes of the meeting can be viewed at here.
The committee resolved that the Area Traffic Officer, in consultation with the local member(s) and Chair, should review the report and subject there being only minor alterations determine the outcome for the shire.
Following a site inspection, members resolved to overrule the objections received with respect to the county roads, and made a recommendation to the trunk road authority that the trunk road objections also be overruled. The trunk road authority accepted this recommendation. An information report was delivered at the 9 November 2016 Montgomeryshire Committee which can be viewed at here.
The highway made the traffic order on 19 December 2016 which will come into effect on 23 January 2017. The necessary changes to the carriageway markings and associated signage within the town will be carried out in due course.
