Welsh in Education Strategic Plan (WESP)

We are carrying out consultation on a new Welsh in Education Strategic Plan (WESP) for 2017-20. The consultation has now ended.

Welsh in Education Strategic Plan (WESP)

In January 2013, the National Assembly passed the School Standards and Organisation (Wales) Act, which includes a statutory requirement for all local authorities to prepare a Welsh in Education Strategic Plan (WESP) detailing how it will contribute to achieving the outcomes and targets set out in the Welsh Government’s Welsh-medium Education Strategy.

The authority’s previous WESP for 2014-17 is now coming to an end, therefore the authority is required to prepare a new WESP for the period 2017-20.

We are required to carry out consultation on the content of the WESP for 2017-20. Consultation will start on the 23rd November 2016, and will end on the 25th January 2017.

At the end of the consultation, the WESP will be updated to reflect comments received during the consultation period, and a revised WESP will be considered by Cabinet. The final WESP will then be submitted to the Welsh Government, who can either:

-          Approve the Plan as submitted

-          Approve the Plan with modifications, or

-          Reject the Plan and prepare another one
