The council has a duty to ensure that schools are organised as efficiently as possible in order to provide the best possible educational opportunities to all pupils.
The council’s most recent Schools Organisation Policy was approved by the council’s Cabinet in September 2015. Following the county council elections held in May 2017, the policy has been refreshed to ensure that it aligns with the new Cabinet’s vision for Powys, 'Vision 2025'.
On the 7th November 2017, the council’s Cabinet approved the commencement of consultation on a new draft policy. We carried out consultation on the policy from the 21st November 2017 until the 30th January 2018.
A copy of the draft policy is available via the following link: Draft policy
The consultation is now closed
A series of drop in sessions were arranged to provide the opportunity for stakeholders to discuss the policy with officers. These were held between 3.00pm and 6.30pm on the following dates:
Tuesday 9th January 2018 – Brecon Library
Thursday 11th January 2018 – The Gwalia, Llandrindod
Tuesday 16th January 2018 – Newtown Library
What will happen next
Once the consultation period has ended, a consultation report will be produced, and the document will be updated to take account of the feedback received. An updated version will be considered by the council’s Cabinet in the spring.
