Library challenge for all the family

To celebrate World Book Day which took place on Thursday 7 March, Powys Library Service are hosting competitions for children in Pre-School, Foundation Phase, Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3, as well as a brand-new challenge for adults!
Pre-School and Foundation Phase age children are asked to re-create their favourite book character in any media. Their design should be no bigger than A3 in size, no smaller than A4, and must be in full colour.
KS2 children (7 - 11 years old) are asked to write a story using the theme, 'Their best friend has given them their favourite book, and they find out that it has magical powers. What are the book's magical powers and how will they use them?'.
KS3 children (11- 14 years old) are asked to write a story of no more than 1000 words using the theme 'The Library is Broken'. How is the library broken? How will they fix it? Entrants can choose to interpret the theme however they like; it could be an epic fantasy inspired by a dream, an amazing adventure that takes place in another world, or a true-to-life story set in an imaginary school.
Entries for the children's competitions will close on Friday 12 April.
The Adult Reading Challenge for 2024 is to simply read 6 books from 6 themes before Thursday 5 September to gain entry into a prize draw.
Cllr David Selby, Cabinet Member for a More Prosperous Powys, said: "It's fantastic that these competitions are back for 2024, and I would really encourage all children from across the county to get involved.
"Being so well represented last year, we would love to see the same, if not more, people getting involved this year. There is also a fantastic challenge for adults, so why not begin reading now and be in with a chance to win a prize and if you already do a lot of reading, why not try and read something different."
